Reiko Tsuiki began studying the modern flute at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, under the tutelage of Soichi Minegishi. During her studies, Reiko was introduced to the world of historical flutes with Masahiro Arita as her guide. This was the beginning of a new way of thinking and playing.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Japan, Reiko moved to the Netherlands where she studied with Barthold Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and received both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in early music, specializing in historical flutes and music making.

To show the diversity and history of the flute, Reiko has performed music from the Renaissance to the music of late Romantic composers such as Jean Louis Tulou and Claude Debussy, playing and displaying for the audience up to seven different instruments from 400 years of music history at her concerts.

Reiko has been recognized in Japan and Europe with awards in prestigious competitions. She received the Overseas Study Program Scholarship from the Japanese Government in 2008, the third prize at the International Music Competition Bruges in 2005, and the Bärenreiter prize at the 5th International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg in 2009.

Reiko has performed with many orchestras including Bach Collegium Japan, Les Boreades, the Wallfisch Band, the Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands, and Le Parnasse français, and she has worked with conductors including Masaaki Suzuki, Ryo Terakado, Walter van Hauwe, and Gustav Leonhardt.
Since 2013, Reiko has been a member of the Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands and performs as the first flutist during the yearly Matthew Passion tour.

In 2006, she founded the historical flute duo DuoKaleidoscope with historical flutist Katja Pitelina. This unique duo performs special programs in which they play the flutes from the periods in which the pieces were composed.
Their first CD, French Baroque Flute Duos, was released in 2019 and received excellent reviews in the Dutch music magazine Luister. The flute duets from the nineteenth century played with original French Romantique flutes will be recorded in the near future.
They began to record and film all the flute duets by Georg Philipp Telemann in 2020, and they are available on YouTube.
In September 2020, Reiko performed the piccolo obligato in Händel’s aria Augelletti, che cantate at Cecilia Bartoli’s recital with the orchestra Musicians of the Prince of Monaco (conducted by Gianluca Capuano) in Rimini, Italy, and Monte Carlo, Monaco.

In the Fall of 2022, Reiko toured Japan, performing  a program she calls “History of flutes” in Kobe, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Okayama. A widely appreciated feature of Reiko’s program is the seven historical flutes from periods from the Renaissance to the twentieth century that she brings to the concerts and plays. Reiko describes the ways in which they are different, and audiences experience the transformation in flute design.

Her time off is devoted to playing chamber music and researching the history of flute music, the instruments of their periods, and the techniques that developed with those particular instruments.
Her other passions are cats – despite being allergic to them, she loves her parents’ Norwegian Forest Cat Hai-iro – and exploring delicious food from the countries she visits.

築城玲子（ついきれいこ）フルート、昔のフルート

桐朋学園大学音楽学部器楽科（フルート専攻）入学後、古楽器科（トラヴェルソ専攻）に転科。同学部を卒業後、同大学研究科を修了。ルネサンス、バロック時代から近・現代に至るまでの各時代のフルート、及び演奏理論を有田正広氏に師事。また、M.Hantaï、B. Csalog、Ch.Zebley各氏のレッスンを受講。

大学卒業時に古楽科成績最優秀者に与えられる「鍋島元子奨学金」を授与される。大学卒業演奏会、読売新人演奏会に出演。2002年～2004年にかけて、日本各地で有田正広氏と、ルネサンス、バロックから現代までの各時代の楽器を使用しての二重奏で共演し好評を博す。2006年「北とぴあ国際音楽祭」参加公演にて、７種の時代楽器を用いたソロ・リサイタルを開催。

オランダのデン・ハーグ王立音楽院にてトラヴェルソをB.Kuijken氏に師事し、同大学院修士課程を修了。これまでにバッハ・コレギウム・ジャパン（鈴木雅明指揮）、レ・ボレアード（寺神戸亮指揮）、The Wallfisch Band（G.レオンハルト指揮）などのプロジェクトに参加。

現在はオランダのデン・ハーグに在住。The Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlandsなどのオーケストラへ参加のほか、2006年よりトラヴェルソ奏者Katja Pitelinaと、様々な時代楽器を用いたフルート・デュオ「DuoKaleidoscope」を結成し、室内楽の活動にも取り組んでいる。2019年にはフレンチ・バロックのフルート二重奏を集めたCD “French Baroque Flute Duos”をリリースし、オランダの音楽雑誌Luisterにて高評価を得る。現在は次のCDのプログラムとして、19世紀フランスのオリジナル楽器を使用した「19世紀ロマンティック・フルートのフルート二重奏」を準備中。www.duokaleidoscope.comにて演奏動画もご覧になれます。

2020年9月、イタリア・リミニとモナコ・モンテカルロにてチェチリア・バルトリのリサイタル公演に参加。オーケストラMusicians of the Prince of Monaco (Gianluca Capuano指揮)の一員として、ヘンデルのアリア “Augelletti, che cantate”でソロ・ピッコロ・オブリガートを演奏。　
2005年8月、ブルージュ国際古楽コンクール3位受賞（トラヴェルソ最高位）。2007年度文化庁在外研修員。2009年3月、国際テレマン・コンクールにおいてベーレンライター賞受賞。

2022年秋には、東京、京都、岡山、神戸にて『フルートの歴史・お話つきコンサート』と題したソロ・リサイタルを開催。モダン、ロマンティック、クラシカル、バロック、ルネサンスなどの7種類のフルートで武満徹からヤコブ・ファン・エイクの作品までを演奏し、それぞれの楽器や作曲家の解説も挟みつつ、聴衆からの質問やツッコミにも答えながらの非常に楽しいコンサートとなる。

猫アレルギーだが、実家のサイベリアン・フォレスト・キャットを溺愛してやまない。

Reiko Tsuiki studeerde moderne dwarsfluit aan de Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo o.l.v. Soichi Minegishi. Tijdens haar studie vond Reiko haar weg in de wereld van historische dwarsfluiten onder begeleiding van Professor Masahiro Arita. Hiermee vond zij een nieuwe benadering van muzikale uitvoeringspraktijk.
Na het behalen van haar Bachelor of Music in Tokyo, voltooide zij haar studie aldaar. Vanaf 2005 studeerde ze bij Barthold Kuijken aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium te Den Haag. In 2008 ontving zij haar Bachelor of Music Traverso en haar Master of Early Music.

In haar vrije tijd speelt Reiko kamermuziek en onderzoekt de geschiedenis van fluitmuziek, de instrumenten uit hun periode en de techniek die werd toegepast bij ieder instrument. Om verscheidenheid en de geschiedenis van de fluiten te laten zien heeft Reiko concerten gespeeld op zeven verschillende fluiten, van renaissance tot moderne instrumenten. Daarbij voerde ze werken uit van componisten als Paul Hindemith en Claude Debussy.

Reiko heeft met haar muzikale spel in Japan en Europa verschillende prijzen gewonnen. Ze kreeg de ‘Overseas Study Programme Scholarship’ van de Japanse overheid in 2008; de derde prijs in International Music Competition Bruges (eerste prijs als FlautoTraverso) en de Bärenreiter prijs tijdens de 5de Internationale Telemann Competitie in Magdeburg.

Reiko heeft gespeeld met orkesten zoals het Bach Collegium Japan, Les Boreades, The Wallfisch band, Musicians of the Prince of Monaco en Le Parnasse Francais en ze heeft gewerkt met onder meer dirigenten als Masaaki Suzuki, Ryo Terakado, Walter van Hauwe en Gustav Leonhardt.

Sinds 2013 is Reiko lid van de The Bach choir and orchestra of the Netherlands. Ze speelt hierin als eerste fluitist tijdens de jaarlijkse Matthäus-Passion tournee.

In 2006 heeft Reiko het historische fluit-duo ‘DuoKaleidoscope’ opgericht, samen met haar collega Katja Pitelina. Dit unieke duo biedt concerten aan met speciale programma waar zij op fluiten uit verschillende perioden spelen. Daarnaast geven zij ook lezingen over historische uitvoeringspraktijk. Hun eerste CD ‘French Baroque Flute Duos’ werd uitgebracht in 2019, en werd beoordeeld met 9 van de 10 punten in het muziektijdschrift Luister.
Het tweetal neemt alle fluit duetten van Georg Philipp Telemann op, die beschikbaar zijn op YouTube.

In September 2020 trad ze in Rimini, Italië & in Monte Carlo, Monaco op in Händel's aria Augeletti, che cantate met piccolo obligato. Dit deed ze bij Cecilia Bartoli's muzikale voordracht met het orkest 'Musicians of Monaco' (o.l.v. Gianluca Capuano).

In de herfst van 2022 maakte Reiko een tour door Japan met het programma 'History of Flutes' in Kobe, Kyoto, Okayama en Tokyo. Een zeer gewaardeerd onderdeel van Reiko's programma is de evolutie van de zeven historische fluiten, van de Renaissance tot de twintigste eeuw. Ze presenteert deze geschiedenis en speelt stukken uit deze tijd. Ze beschrijft op levendige wijze de manier waarin de fluiten verschillen. Het publiek kan de subtiele schoonheid van de veranderende muzikale traditie en transformatie van het fluitontwerp meebeleven.
